On this episode of This Day In History, Tony and Armand dive into the discovery of DNA as being a double helix structure. On this day in 1953, James Watson and Francis Crick announce to their friends they have discovered what the structure of DNA actually looks like. Their formal announcement of the double helix would come later in the April edition of Nature magazine. Also on this day in 1993, the U.S. Treasury Department’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) agents raid the Branch Davidians compound in Waco, Texas. This led to a 51-day standoff at the compound, resulting in 76 of the Branch Davidians dying in the conflict. On a much happier note, John Turturro, known for his role as Jesus Quintana in The Big Lebowski, is born on this day.
