On this day in 1836, Frederick Pabst (Pabst Brewing Company) is born in Mönchpfiffel-Nikolausrieth, Germany, eventually making his way to the United States in the 1840’s to claim his fortune. Also, 1899 sees the birth of St. Louis brewing magnate, August Anheuser “Gussie” Busch Jr. Busch would go on to turn Anheuser-Busch into the largest brewing company in the world and became the president, chairman, and CEO of the St. Louis Cardinals. Plus, Generalissimo Francisco Franco conquers Madrid in 1933, and Jim Thorpe (world’s greatest athlete) passes away in 1953. Join us for this episode of This Day In History!
