In 1997, a Mercedes-Benz S280 carrying Diana and Dodi Fayed crashed at the Place de l’Alma underpass in Paris, France. The driver and Fayed were pronounced dead at the scene while Diana was removed from the car and rushed to Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital. Unfortunately, Diana went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at 4:00 a.m. Her shocking death drew 3 million mourners to the funeral at Westminster Abbey and was seen worldwide by an estimated 2.5 billion people.
