On this day in 1941, President Roosevelt gives his famous speech in which he asks Congress to declare war on Japan. “I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese empire.” -Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 1941
Also on this day, John Lennon is shot dead in front of his apartment building by Mark David Chapman in 1980.
